For Spring Summer 2020, Deborah Lyons pays tribute to a darkly romanticised British adolescence, the yearning for widening horizons, striving for individuality and independence, and above all a desire for the unknown.
The collection plays on proportions of sophisticated silhouettes, adding volume to counterbalance Lyons’ signature sleek tailoring. Exaggerated shoulders and nipped in sleeves complement the female form, framing the body and accentuating the waist.
For the collection, Lyons returns to partnering with some of Britain’s finest mills, continuing her affinity for Scottish tartans and Linton tweeds. The election of the mills and the rich local textile complements the timelessness of the tailoring, whilst the East London Garment District’s production parallels the modernity of the Deborah Lyons woman.
Lustre morning rose white hues and timeless blacks balance a rainbow of colours of peony fuchsia, seafoam, sand-wave blue and glistening metallics.
“Sudden from heaven like a weeping cloud, That fosters the droop-headed flowers all, And hides the green hill in an April shroud; Then glut thy sorrow on a morning rose, Or on the rainbow of the salt sand-wave, Or on the wealth of globed peonies .”
John Keats, Ode to Melancholy
