about Deborah lyons
Deborah Lyons is synonymous with empowered femininity, effortless and versatile tailoring and a strong point of view. Lyons creates easy-to-wear, beautifully detailed and distinctive designs and collections for women living life according to their rules.
Our goal is to develop and nurture a sustainable future with community, craftsmanship, and diversity at the centre of everything we do.
Deborah Lyons has a rebellious British spirit and a giant heart. We cherish our beautiful planet and seek to protect it in everything we do. We are urban explorers but we see inspiration everywhere and love nothing more than escaping into nature.
We believe in the power of what we can achieve when we work together for the common good. We strive to empower others around us who like us are seeking every day to be better versions of ourselves.
By committing 10% of every sale we make to charitable projects including The Trussell Trust, Women For Women, and The Canopy Project, we seek to extend a positive impact past the point of purchase.
On average, e-commerce uses about 30% less energy than traditional retail. Good news because the majority of our customers use our online site to make purchases (it is the year of WFH after all).
We are investing in green building infrastructure to minimise our waste, water, and energy. We recycle, compost organic wastes, and recycle or donate our textile scraps whenever possible. Zero waste with a carbon negative impact is our goal.
Every member of the Deborah Lyons team are women (yay!) or people from underrepresented populations although this will likely shift as we grow, this is how we choose to grow.
We are dedicated to an experimental and progressive approach which will allow us to transform the way fashion is made, received and used by implementing new technologies, embracing advances in materials, and always seeking better solutions.
Craftsmanship is where you find the emotional connection between manufacturer and consumer, encouraging the user to see the finished pieces as objects to be valued, cherished, cared for, and kept. Considered details, timeless design, conscious materials, and quality are at the core of our approach.
We place great attention on our sourcing and manufacturing practices. The materials we choose directly impact the longevity and durability of our clothes, and we are constantly seeking better and more circular solutions as well as moving as much as possible to incorporate deadstock fabrics into our existing collections.
Deborah Lyons is committed to minimising our environmental impact and achieving fair, safe and healthy working conditions throughout our supply chain. We seek to partner with suppliers who share a common vision of sustainability, accountability and transparency. We currently require that suppliers meet our standards for: social responsibility, safe & non-toxic, and better materials.
We are locally manufactured with the majority of our cutting and sewing done in London. All our garments are produced by responsible manufacturing partners here using our ethical standards and materials.
Our frequent factory visits foster a strong working relationship with the owners and employees, one built on shared values of sustainability, transparency, and responsibility.
About The Designer:
With a background in fine art, designer Deborah Lyons moved to New York in 2005 and enrolled at Parsons to earn a degree in fashion design. Lyons started her career interning with Nicole Miller and then working for twin shoe designers who had a company in New York. After this she moved to Italy, learning shoe making in the Marche region where she designed and developed a small collection which was quickly picked up by Harrods, Dover Street Market, Liberty, and Matches amongst others.
Simultaneously she became the designer of a tailoring brand based in New York, with the collection sold to Browns, Henry Bendel, Intermix and Takashimaya.
A decision to move back to London led Lyons to put the brands on hold and move instead into design consultancy in various capacities for companies which have included J Mendel and Melissa Odabash, as well as a variety of young fashion labels. In late 2016 Lyons partnered up with buyer and boutique owner Kamelia Kamel to launch Deborah Lyons. Kamelia’s invaluable retail experience and business acumen, as well as her innate sense of style have given a dynamic foundation to the young British brand.
Inspired by the rich history of British tailoring, the label is founded on transitional, timeless, and effortless styling, exclusively made from the best British and European fabrics. Deborah Lyons is known for its strong silhouettes, modern femininity, high quality, and for delivering iconic wardrobe staples.
Lyons' inspiration comes from the incredible women she has had the good fortune to meet along her journey and she designs for these women and for other female leaders of tomorrow. She is dedicated to building a company committed to giving back to the community around her, driving social change, empowering other women, and pioneering sustainability efforts in the luxury fashion market.
